The Dora Bulldogs welcomed in the Curry Yellow Jackets for their class 4A region 5 opener Friday night.
The Yellow Jackets would waste no time making things interesting as they would hold an early lead after the first quarter 8-7. The Yellow Jackets were determined to start a new streak of wins in a row after snapping their 35 game losing streak just a week ago.
However, it would be all Dora Bulldogs the final three quarters as Dora outscored Curry 40-0. Dora was led by the strong running game duo of Jamarcus Goodmon and Ty Clayton. The passing game also had good rhythm with quarterback Sean Pryor and wide receiver Garrett Hogland. The pair would connect for two touchdowns on the night.
The biggest improvement for the Bulldogs was the performance of the defense. Dora’s front seven stifled the Curry running game and put endless pressure on Curry quarterback Josh Day the entire game. The Bulldogs defense also forced five turnovers with three of those turnovers coming by the way of interceptions.
The win was a much needed confidence boost for Dora as they head into the bulk of their region schedule in the coming weeks. It was also an opportunity for the Bulldogs to develop depth for the future as many young Bulldog players saw snaps in the second half.
The Bulldogs move to 1-2 on the year but are 1-0 in region play. Dora hopes to remain undefeated in region play next Friday night as they travel to Haleyville to take on the Haleyville Lions. Much like Dora, the Lions enter the game with a 1-2 overall record but are 1-0 in region play after erasing a 16 point fourth quarter deficit to Cordova to win 45-41.
