Oneonta dominates Dora 41-17

The Dora Bulldogs made the trip to Oneonta to play the #6 Oneonta Redskins for another non region game before region play starts next week.

The story of the night for the Bulldogs was not being able to take advantage of opportunities. Dora made it inside the Oneonta red zone four different times without scoring any drives. Those drives resulted in 2 turnovers and 2 turnover on downs. The lone bright spot for the Bulldogs in the red zone came in the second quarter when Riley Willingham hit a 29 yard field goal.

The Bulldogs defense bent but didn’t break a lot in the first half, staying in the game only trailing 7-3 with only one minute remaining remaining until halftime. However, the last minute of the half would be brutal for Dora. Oneonta would score a rushing touchdown and Dora QB would fumble on the next offensive drive allowing Oneonta to have a short field that they would take advantage of with another rushing touchdown to take a 21-3 lead over Dora to end the half.

Oneonta would continue their rushing dominance in the second half to eventually take a 41-3 lead in the fourth quarter. Oneonta would allow some of their backups to get some reps in the remaining time of the 4th quarter. Dora’s Ty Clayton would be given the opportunity to get some carries at running back during this time and would take advantage. Clayton would score two 4th quarter touchdowns to end the scoring for the game with the Oneonta Redskins winning 41-17 over the Dora Bulldogs.

These articles are usually meant to highlight the high and low points of Dora but I must mention an outstanding individual performance for the Oneonta Redskins, running back Fluff Bothwell ran the ball 20 times for 314 yards. This is my 21st season of attending high school football games and this is one of the finest performances I’ve seen a player have.

Dora falls to 0-2 on the season. The Bulldogs begin region play next week at home against Curry. The Yellow Jackets snapped their 35 game losing streak last night with a win over Berry. The Yellow Jackets come into the game with a 1-1 record overall.
