The Dora Bulldogs returned home to Horace Roberts Field Friday night to battle the Corner Yellow Jackets in the annual County Line Clash. Dora came into the game on a three-game losing streak to the Yellow Jackets, but the Bulldogs would rely on a dominant defensive effort and an outstanding 203 yards rushing by Jamarcus Goodmon to bring the County Line Clash trophy home!
The first half of the game was sloppy for both offenses. The Dora defense would set the tone by limiting the Yellow Jackets to 53 yards of offense in the first half. Dora’s offense wouldn’t fare much better with only 87 yards of offense at the half. However, the Bulldogs were able to get on the scoreboard. Mason Stewart would be the standout player of the first half as he scored two touchdowns. Stewart would reel in a 13-yard pass from Garrett Hogland for his first touchdown and ran a jet sweep for 22 yards for his second score giving Dora a 14-0 advantage at the half.
Dora would make some offensive adjustments at the half that would allow them to have an explosive second half. Jamarcus Goodmon would establish a dominant ground attack by scoring touchdowns from 6 and 7 yards respectively on the first two possessions of the second half. Corner would continue to make mistakes by turning the ball over on downs in their own territory several times in the second half.
As part of a balanced offense, Garrett Hogland would find Brennan Davis on a 13-yard touchdown pass to finish the Yellow Jackets off and give Dora an insurmountable 35-0 lead. Corner would finally get on the scoreboard late in the third quarter as Landon Peterson would find Nick Dyer for an 18-yard touchdown to get the Yellow Jackets on the board.
The Bulldogs would use the fourth quarter to get some reserves playing time and both teams would score a touchdown a piece in the fourth quarter. Eric Rogers would score the Bulldogs fourth quarter touchdown with a seven-yard scamper. Corner’s standout running back Gavin Brown would score the final touchdown of the evening on a 72-yard run. Brown had run for over 200 yards on two separate occasions this year, but the Bulldogs held Brown to 103 yards on 24 carries.
Jamarcus Goodmon finished the night with 203 yards on 21 carries and Garrett Hogland finished 6 of 13 passing for 103 yards and two touchdowns. The Bulldogs offense tallied over 300 yards of total offense on the night. The win moves Dora to 3-2 on the season and County Line Clash champions for the first time since the rivalry was given a name. Dora returns to region play next week as they will face the Fultondale Wildcats for homecoming and senior night.
