Bulldogs Win Girl’s Class 4A, Area 8 Championship

Zharia Hubbard had a dominant performance to lead the Dora Bulldogs to the Class 4A, Area 8 Tournament championship on Wednesday night with a 66-53 victory over Fultondale at Gardendale High School.

Hubbard, who took home tournament MVP honors, had 22 points, 11 rebounds, five assists, four blocks and four steals against the Wildcats. Ja’Kaiyah Womack and Makaiyah Smith joined Hubbard on the All-Tournament team.

“I am super proud of all these girls. They have all worked hard to get to this moment and they deserve all the credit,” Dora coach Justin Blevins said.

Next up for Dora is a home sub-region playoff game on Monday vs. the winner of today’s American Christian-Northside game. Monday’s game will tip off at 6 p.m.

Against Fultondale, Dora took a 17-13 lead after the first quarter. The Bulldogs led 35-25 at the half and held a 49-42 lead going into the final quarter.

For Dora (18-6), Womack finished with 13 points and 14, Rukia Chapel had 10 points and four steals, Lyria Meadows added nine points and Smith put in seven.

For Fultondale, Jakiya Howard and Kendra Davis each had 14 points and JaKendra Jackson added 10 points.

Dora had lost both regular-season meetings to Fultondale, losing 50-37 at home and 41-24 on the road.
