Bulldogs begin region play with shutout win over Hanceville, 28-0

Dora continued their 2021 road warriors tour as they marched into Fred Talley Stadium in Hanceville to begin class 4A, region 6 play. Coming into the game, Hanceville and Dora had identical records of 1-1 but the Bulldogs from Hanceville had already lost their region opener the prior week to the Fultondale Wildcats, 44-36.

Dora would face adversity immediately at kickoff as a special teams error gave Hanceville the ball near the 50 yard line to begin the game. Hanceville would drive the ball almost all the way down the field as they would have a 1st and goal opportunity on their first drive of the game. However, Dora’s defense would stand tall stopping Hanceville on downs and take over on offense deep in their own territory to begin their first drive.

Dora would go backwards on their first two plays and would have a 3rd and long from their own 1 yard line. Dora would hand the ball off to Jamarcus Goodmon to make room for the punter. However, Goodmon had other plans as he would race 70 yards down the sideline and be tackled deep in Hanceville territory. This would be the most adversity Dora would face the entire night as Dora would score on their first possession and set the tone for a dominant performance.

Quarterback Garrett Hogland would take advantage of the opportunities in the passing game as he would throw 3 passing touchdowns and help engineer a Dora offense that would rack up 416 yards total yards on the night. Hogland was also named the WJLX 101.5 FM player of the week for his outstanding performance. Mr. Dependable, Jamarcus Goodmon also crossed the century mark in the game rushing for 125 yards and a touchdown.

Not to be outshined, the Dora defense kept Hanceville’s do it-it-all quarterback Zach Campbell in check holding him to 116 total yards. This is especially impressive considering Hanceville only mustered 158 total yards of offense as a team. The Dora defense continues to shine as they have held their opponent to under 200 yards of total offense in back-to-back games.

The win moves Dora to 2-1 on the season and 1-0 in region play. Dora will continue their road warriors tour next week as they travel to Oneonta for a pivotal region game against the Oneonta Redskins. Oneonta comes into the game 3-1 overall and 1-1 in region play including a 47-13 win Friday night over region foe Ashville.
